Being in the “Now” is one of the hardest things for the human mind. Thoughts are constantly jumping over each other, going in an instant from a memory of the past, to a possible scenario of the future. Yet, now is all we truly experience, at all times. We live through an eternal now moment, a moment that shifts appearance before our eyes, giving us the illusion that we move through time.
Mindfulness
Many practices have been developed to increase our awareness of the now, keeping the mind’s focus on the eternal quality of the present moment. The Japanese tea ceremony, archery, mindful meditation, and so on. Through mindfulness, every gesture is followed by the mind in minute detail, and with complete awareness of how what we are doing evolves through the only moment we can perceive at the experiential level. The Now.
When we are remembering the past, or thinking about future events, we are projecting the mind in a dimension of time that we can never experience from our current standpoint. Technically, they are illusions of the mind. It’s just like an orientation map, with the green arrow showing that “You are here”, while the past and future are somewhere over there. In order to experience reality, you must always be “here”. It’s the only way you can do it.
Creating your future in the now
Once we realize that the eternal now is our only real and true moment, we can harness the power of now to shift our perceived reality and create change into our experience. Everything has to happen, and can only happen in the now. When you are remembering past events, you are doing so in your now. When you are projecting future events, you are doing it in your now. Because Now is all we have.
We are electrical beings, constantly broadcasting signals out to Universal Intelligence. These signals are generated by our emotional reaction to our thoughts. They are our beliefs, our level of expectation on a particular thought. It is in the now that we broadcast these signals. We can’t do it from within the past, because your past body is a ghost of the mind, it no longer exists – from moment to moment. We can’t do it from within the future, because your future body is a projection of the mind. It hasn’t come to exist yet. Your signals out to the Universe are emitted from within your present moment, the only moment where you are real.
Understanding this simple, yet powerful point, helps us realize how we can use our mind to mold the present in a way that the sequence of now moments will shift into the now form you have intended. In other words, when you visualize something as happening in the future, you are trying to work on a dimension that is there, while you are here. Affirming “One day I will have or do this…” will keep it unreachable, because from your eternal now, one day is always at least a day away at all times.
Working from within the Now
When you are mindfully present in your now moment, you want to work from within this dimension. Affirming “Right now, I already have or do this…” will let your mind stay in the present, molding it with the vision that what you want to achieve is already there. You are already experiencing it at the cellular level. You are broadcasting a powerful signal in your Now, molding it to the point that your Now will be shaped according to your mental blueprint.
When you operate from your Now, communicating with your Now, broadcasting to your Intelligent Now, you open up the stream of potentiality, so that one particular Now can take shape, instead of another one. The present reality you are experiencing is the shape that your Now has taken, based on the blueprint you have been broadcasting, up until now. Change that blueprint by feeling a different outcome in your Now, as if it is already part of your experience, and your now will follow that. Moment by moment. Rather than moving through time, we move through experiences in the eternal Now.
What are you thinking right now? How are you feeling right now? Because it is right now, that you are creating your future.

Palma, I agree that staying in the now can be difficult. Since I now mind my thoughts I can catch myself when I am straying from the now. Our power to create our lives is from the moment of now. I find that I am not fearful of events the “may” occur when I view the moment I am in and realize at that moment all is well and the event has not occurred. As you said, now is all we have. Let’s make the most of it in the moment.
reginaldc’s last blog post..The voodoo effect and the power of beliefs
Hi Reginald, right, staying in the now requires a lot of focused determination! Realizing that all is well in the now, will show us that our worries are just negative projections of the mind. It’s great that you can catch yourself and focus on the present moment again.
Mindfulness is an excellent practice. One of the simplest and yet most challenging exercises for it involves pausing for a second before you walk through a door — every door, for one whole day. It is harder than it sounds, but once you get the hang of it, really improves your awareness.

Hi Elizabeth, that is a great practice! I didn’t know about it. So simple and yet challenging. I am sure it increases awareness. It really shows that we don’t need any special tools to practice mindfulness. Everyone can do it, everywhere.
Palma, thank you for sharing your insights. Creating, in the Now, is powerful. Keeping our minds in the now, takes practice. A good reminder for us all.
At this moment, I am working to keep my mind focused on achieving my goals; creating my reality …. and trying to push back those worrisome thoughts that pop up daily.
Mysticle’s last blog post..Attitude of Gratitude
Hi Mysticle, I agree, it does take practice to keep our minds in the now, because the mind tends to wander places. At least, we all have the innate ability to do it! The worrisome thoughts need only to be replaced, gently, by the pleasant thoughts.
I agree that our mind is really powerful if we just know how.
Hi Annie, we are powerful beings, indeed. We all have access to the creative stream, no exceptions. And this is really beautiful. Thank you for stopping by!
