Hi Ryan, nice to hear from you again!

You raise some very good points. The choice of no opinion that you made is perfectly all right. It is a conscious and balanced choice, made by following your own guidance on the subject.

In my case, it is not because of faith, but because of logic that I believe in alien intelligent life. I mean it in the sense of a mathematical and statistical approach to it. The way I feel, is that the concept of Infinity is so amazingly complex and magnificent, that within this Infinity everything must exist. Including other forms of intelligent life. My mind cannot conceive the absence of consciousness in a never ending (infinite) number of galaxies, each made of billions of stars and solar systems. To me, consciousness pervades the entire Universe, and consciousness is at the source of physical creation. There simply must be other physical creations in other points of consciousness.

You are right that dramatic movies are more successful, because there is a definite recipe for writing stories that entice the audiences. And that has to involve the resolution of inner or outer conflict, for the audience to identify with the story.

One point to be considered is this. Most of us agree that in general the media have a great influence over mass consciousness. Companies spending enormous amounts of money on commercials know this too. Now, if the media is such a powerful tool that can influence billions of people around the world, possibly the most powerful tool, whoever deals the cards and holds in their hands the power to decide what to produce or not, is also in a position of great power and influence. That is, the movie execs at the higher levels. Especially if combined with political figures, who plant memes of alien threat within a seemingly positive speech. One example is President Reagan at the U.N. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9LyxiVVZb8

With that said, I do enjoy action movies and big special effects a lot, but I emotionally remove myself from their conditioning aspects.

Regarding the impetus on the U.S., this is because of three main reasons:

- the Roswell incident happened on American soil, and this fact is extremely relevant given that there are supposed alien bodies in possession. I don't think that a UFO crash of this kind has happened in any other part of the world in modern times. An official disclosure about this incident can only come from the U.S.

- the U.S. has been a powerful force in space sciences and technology (NASA and all), and was officially the first country to land on the moon. An event that has affected the entire world. This fact alone means that much weight would be given worldwide to a disclosure originating from the U.S., unlike any other country.

- the U.S. is also a country of major planetary influence on many levels, including political, military, and financial levels. Although other countries have started to open their UFO files to the public, an official disclosure coming from the U.S. would have a massive impact. With the gain of controlling world politics, comes an added responsibility toward the world, so I believe that it is fair to demand this from the U.S. specifically.

I thank you so much for raising these points, as they helped me get more clarity on these issues! :-)

Palma,
Long time, no chat! I hope you are doing swimmingly.
Excellent, and well researched article. There are a few things that I noted about it that I'd like to mention.
It is interesting how ufology has really moved out of the fringe. I don't completely know what to make of it myself, but there is a lot of evidence. I tend to be where I think most people are at on the subject. I will believe in aliens when one shakes my hand. I do not NOT believe in aliens. It is just that I have no definitive proof either way. That means it is a faith issue (real faith is based on evidence as well), and I just don't find a reason to have faith on this either way. This is mostly because my belief or disbelief wouldn't really effect things at all at this point. So, I just choose to have no opinion.
You mentioned a "mass media mental conditioning" toward a fear of malevolent beings. This may be true to some degree, but this is where UFO believers do themselves a disservice. Independence Day was created because some movie execs thought it would be a cool Sci-Fi/action story, not because a secret government agency turned out a script (although the script does seem sufficiently bad to believe that). Hollywood pumps out these stories because the aliens come to earth---share their secret for peace and harmony---everyone has a meal and celebrates Ewok-style under fireworks, just doesn't make that interesting a story.
The final thing I noticed was that you put the impetus on the US government for being transparent about aliens, and asked why they were covering this up. While I do not in any way believe that the US government is angelic, if this is a world-wide issue why does the US government get consternation and the rest of the countries get a pass? Why isn't Sri Lanka liable to tell the truth on the matter? Russia? China?
It is really easy to blame the US for things we don't like, but countries usually act in a way that is beneficial to their interests. If they didn't, they would be stupid. Obviously, the US government believes that announcing alien visitors would not benefit the country (assuming there are), but obviously other countries believe that same thing. We can't expect the US to do something that is not in their best interest when we don't expect it from every other country.

Hi Reginald - Yes, confirmation that we are not alone will require a review of many religious beliefs. Hopefully, by the time the disclosure happens, the most people will have raised their level of consciousness and will be ready to accept the new reality.

Besides millions of people around the globe, I was positively surprised to know that the majority of Americans believe in extraterrestrial life, and are psychologically and spiritually ready to accept the news. A <a href="http://www.ufoevidence.org/documents/doc989.htm" rel="nofollow">poll was run</a> by the Sci-Fi Channel, showing this data. :-)

Hey Palma,
It is amazing to me that we can believe that out of all the stars and planets in the universe that we can be the only living beings in the universe. It smacks of the same thought process that the sun revolved around the earth. Man has an extremely egocentric point of view and has believe so long in his superior place in the universe. Confirmation of the idea that we are not alone will shake many of our most sacred ideals about our existence. For me it only makes sense that there is so much more to discover about our universe.

Hi Mike - I've always been fascinated by the accounts of extra-terrestrial visitations in ancient times, and the mysterious artifacts and constructions that can only be explained this way. I remember reading "Not of this world" by Peter Kolosimo, a long time ago, and it all made perfect sense.

I've been meaning to look into the work of Zecharia Sitchin for a while now, and all the controversy about Nibiru. Thank you for the reminder!

Drunvalo's work is also great. I came across a broadcast he did on the Mayan prophecy, to be posted here soon. I did not know about his accounts on the Dogon and the dolphins, though.

I have a feeling that very soon all of this information will make sense for more and more people. If we are not alone now, we haven't been in the past either. :-)

Beautifully put.
It's really interesting what Zecharia Sitchin writes about ancient texts telling detailed stories of extra-terrestrial giants who came to earth to mine gold. The Lost Realms is a fascinating book.

Drunvalo Melchizedek also talks about the Dogon who hold incredibly detailed astronomical knowledge which they claim was taught them by extra-terrestrials, dolphins in fact!

Anyway, as usual I couldn't agree more with what you've written.
Thanks again Palma!
