Timewave Zero: the fractal nature of time

What if what we are living now, as a collective, is the re-enactment of a pattern that occurred many times before, and how that pattern manifests changes depending on our state of consciousness? Could our experience of time be constructed by both a natural flow, and the flow of consciousness, spiraling in smaller and smaller cycles, each segment carrying the compressed quality of all previous time, just like in a fractal? And if time is accelerating and compressing, what will happen when we reach the singularity moment, when one single point comprises the entire cycle?

I’ve been utterly fascinated by the Timewave Zero theory of the late writer, philosopher, and ethnobotanist Terence McKenna, a genius and visionary of his time. Following a psychedelic shamanic experience in the Colombian Amazon in 1971, he developed the theory of the “Novelty of time” – in which human events follow a predictable pattern – by observing a correlation with the Chinese prediction system of the I Ching, and seeing within this system a calendar that is keeping track of time cycles. He converted the King Wen Sequence of the I Ching into a series of complex mathematical sequences, and superimposed it to our linear history, thus uncovering a cyclical pattern of novelties (new events that have an impact on consciousness, either of a positive or negative nature), that becomes progressively smaller, until it reaches a zero point, where time literally “ends”.

McKenna observed the fractal nature of time in which the same cycles repeat in shorter and shorter periods until an infinitely small moment in time is reached in December 2012. Each cycle has the same rate of “bumps” and novelties, but because it becomes progressively smaller, the same time span sees an increase of them, because it is made of progressively more cycles. Each cycle proceeds to get infinitely small and divide up smaller and smaller fragments of time until a moment comprised of all moments is reached. The point of singularity.

The present moment, the “now”, has embedded within itself the qualities of the past and the future, and is effected by those cycles. Through the progression of the fractal, an inter-connectivity is formed between historical events. They are related by resonance. The outer expression and manifestation of the event may be different, but it carries the same intrinsic quality of the previous ones. What this system does, is not to predict specific events – how things unfold is left to our collective consciousness – but it highlights a predetermined “pattern”, where the ebb and flow of novelty follow precise cycles, to reach the point of singularity on December 21, 2012. At this point, time as we know it will cease to operate, the timewave reaches its end, and we will move into a different experience of time. I believe that the “end of time” does not mean that we will flatline into oblivion, but that humanity will meet a major – never seen before in history – transition point. It is possible that during the singularity moment, we will move from space/time (three dimensions of space and one dimension of time) into time/space (three dimensions of time and one dimension of space), and emerge into a new and completely different timewave.

Terence McKenna – “We are on the brink of making the quantum leap to the conquest of another dimension by obliterating our fixity in time. And then we will migrate into the future. Each into our own future. And then human history is looked back on as a nightmare awakened from, a brutal but necessary interval to being happily kissed goodbye.”

According to McKenna, in 2012 history as we know it will end and we will mark time in a completely different way, because reality as we perceive it will change. This concept fits in with similar theories of a quantum leap, of a global event on that same year that will catapult humanity into another dimension of being. How he came to set the zero date is controversial for some, because initially he had a different one, though very close in time to it (I’ve seen mentioned both mid-November, and December 22, 2012), and that the date was later adjusted slightly to fit with the end date of the Mayan calendar. This does not take away from the underlying construct, and McKenna himself focused only on 12.21.2012. The principle of time acceleration and of fractal cycles still applies. We all know that we are moving much faster as a collective, not only compared to thousands of years ago, but also faster than even ten years ago. Each decade spins faster with change occurring at an increasing rate. The time frame between “novelties” gets shorter with each passing year, where new inventions and the advancement of technology take us further up the evolution ladder. Computer chips getting smaller and more powerful, wireless communication, satellites, nano-technology, cloning, artificial intelligence… we are advancing at a very fast pace.

From diagnosis2012:

The end of the wave shows “ingression of novelty into spacetime” or change, accelerating to incredible levels. To paraphrase Robert Anton Wilson’s summary; the last 384-day cycle contains more transformations than in all previous cycles – below that is a 6-day cycle, when things accelerate even faster, and in the last 135 minutes, 18 barriers comparable with the appearance of life, or the invention of language, will be crossed – 13 of these will occur in the last second.

It is very interesting to note that the code number at the basis of this theory is 64, like the number of the hexagrams in the I Ching, which is the system tracking the patterns of time. Each day corresponds to a line of the hexagram, so each hexagram is 6 days X 64 = a basic cycle of 384 days. Larger cycles are reached by successive multiplications of 64. This same number is also tied with the 64 codons of human DNA. This correlation, to me, indicates that time is genetically encoded within us (and the reason why we age), and that our DNA is tied to our experience of time and our cycles around the Sun (the marker of time). If this is so, it would make complete sense that through DNA evolution, due to cosmic and solar radiation, once we reach the singularity point, we will move in a dimension beyond time as we know it, because the genetic encoding will have evolved.

McKenna also mentioned “interference patterns” as being the links that inter-connected history. If upon reaching zero time, we will cross the interference pattern of another timewave, it could very well be that we move away from a linear or cyclic time perspective, into a holographic experience. That is, holographic time, created by a multi-dimensional fractal.

The Fractal Time Software was created in close collaboration with Terence McKenna, and and on the same site you will find the Mathematics of Timewave Zero, and an interesting article by Peter Meyer on how this controversial Zero Date was calculated. He questions the validity of this date (not of the theory per se), by the choice of the super-novelty event that would mark the last cycle:

But in the case of the Huang Ti numbers, the assumption is not contradicted, and in fact the timewave generated by the Huang Ti numbers shows that the start of the final 24,576-day cycle does in fact occur with indication of great novelty.

But this line of reasoning is subject to the objection: What is the justification for the choice of the Hiroshima incineration as the date to mark the start of the final 24,576-day cycle? There were plenty of other dates in the 20th century which would qualify as extremely novel, or as events with extremely novel consequences. For example, 1939-09-01, the day that Nazi Germany invaded Poland, triggering World War II. Or, for Americans, 1941-12-07, the day Pearl Harbor was attacked. Or 1963-11-22, the date of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Clearly there are many candidates for such an event, so there is no certainty, or even likelihood, that the Hiroshima atomic bomb is the event which is sought.

To me, as sad and disruptive as they are on human consciousness, the start of a big, bloody war, and the assassination of a president, are hardly an “extreme” novelty. Such patterns have happened before many times. McKenna was specific in saying that the choice of the Hiroshima bombing as the marker of the last great cycle, was because it repeated the pattern of the Big Bang. It was extremely novel, with the cataclysmic simultaneous killing of so many people at once, by the use of a never seen before technology that replicated the atomic explosion of the Universe. He was very set on the 12.21.2012 date.

I found the most enlightening reading on this subject on the ATS forums (AboveTopSecret.com), on the thread Timewave Zero – a closer look, by one of its members “Evasius”. This is the opening post, which describes in wonderful and highly intelligent ways the implications of this theory on evolution, consciousness, and technology. I highly recommend reading the entire thread, because it gets better and better:

In this thread I hope to explore Terence McKenna’s Novelty Theory a bit further than what is normally discussed; below are my theoretical views on how McKenna’s idea joins our collective consciousness intimately with the flow of natural time.

The idea of Novelty Theory is easy to initially dismiss as preposterous, given that it’s common sense that there is no possible way that the flow of time was mapped out eons ago. However McKenna’s findings point to just that – human events follow a predictable pattern (discovered and utilized and ancient China via the I-Ching).

The Timewave is a code embedded within time itself. It connects natural time with conscious time and gives a level of meaning to all events. The code is counting down to something in the near future, however it’s not clear whether it’s a transition point in an infinite cycle or an endpoint leading to the ‘flatline’ of our known existence.

The Timewave cannot exist without both natural time & conscious time (the conscious perception of its natural flow). These two threads of time are joined together via a gridwork, like steps on a ladder. The best representation of this is the double helix of DNA. The gridwork, or steps up the ladder, are specific points along the timewave. Each point has a different value or level of novelty, and for some reason the timewave seems to be mapped out at the very point of its creation/manifestation.

The timewave is literally a skeleton over which conscious reality can form, like a wire frame model. The grid values are not naturally changeable, though which events occur at certain points along the wave are. The specifics of what happens at each point are determined by the collective consciousness of the observers, much like that which is represented in quantum theory.

Not only do these gridpoints intersect events in our reality, they also intersect all local parallel realities, joining all conscious existence into one undulating wave (like a blanket covering the bed of spacetime).

Although the timewave isn’t physically a spiral, events along the timeline match up when the thread is laid out in a spiral fashion. With the outside of the spiral representing the past, time progressing twists inwards until it eventually reaches the centre and stops. Draw a line from the centre out to any point on the edge and events along that line will have intimate connections even though thousands of years may separate them. As you get closer to the centre, events appear closer together, indeed they may seem to overlap. Just before the end of the spiral, the last few moments will hold the significance of all previous moments.

The timewave flows around the major point of gravity and energy existing across all local parallel three dimensional realities — our Sun.

Not every star has a timewave, only stars bearing conscious beings. The timewave is like a thumbprint, an identity unique to an entire civilization. Each sun has an intimate connection with it’s conscious offspring, and our Sun is no different.

Another way to view the timewave is as ripples across the surface of a pond after a pebble is tossed in. Considering the possibility that there could be more than one timewave in the universe (it is likely there are other intelligent lifeforms out there, existing along their own rhythmic timewave), then imagine two pebbles dropped into a pond near each other. When the ripples intersect, they cause wave interference, and they will ultimately either flatline or synchronize in the interplay of peaks and troughs. There is a level of interference already taking place locally and has been for some time. The interference is palpable and intimately ties into synchronicity, déjà vu, and the apparent repetition in history.

All too often, consciousness is overlooked as a factor bearing any significance on natural time, though the two can’t help but affect one another. Any event affecting the course of time sends reverberations backwards and forwards along the timeline – certain perceptive individuals detect these ripples as reality shifts. In fact, the Earth itself as well as the Sun (which both have their own levels of consciousness), could react physically to any upcoming major events. These reactions could take the form of earthquakes, abnormal weather, changes in physical reality that defy all logic, and even a perceived change in the pacing of events in natural time.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the flatline present in our code in approximately late December 2012 is a joining of two or more separate timewaves. The cancellation caused by interference will be temporary, and I believe will result in one new colossal timewave — a new rhythm of existence encompassing all conscious entities within.

An overlapping of timewaves can only mean one thing – contact. The event does not necessarily take place in 2012, however the joining waves happen to reach a highly critical point by that time. Also, the entity we’re making contact with does not necessarily have to be alien. The birth of conscious artificial intelligence in a “Technological Singularity” scenario could in fact create its own unique timewave resulting from its own perception of time.

In order for this to take place, parallel realities (or at least portions of them) are coalescing into what will be eventually one perceived reality. So, at zero point, there will be no local parallel realities – all will be one. New parallels will branch out beyond zero point, assuming there is existence beyond zero.

If you are as fascinated as I am by the Timewave Zero theory, you may also be interested in this other ATS thread started by the same member Evasius, Timewave Zero – Countdown to Transition.

Listening to the videos below – 2012 & the Nature of Time – with closed eyes, is my recommended experience. It was a wonderful journey into the world of time, as I was laying down on the couch in a meditative state. Terence, wherever you are, may your spirit fly free through the fabrics of multi-dimensional time, and thank you so much for your great gift to us.

Oh my this is perfect. Haha. I can’t stop wagging my tail whenever I see an article about Terence Mckenna. Anything that mentions his name is like dogfood to me. lol. I haven’t come across the last four videos you have so it was quite a treat to see them. I was watching it several hours earlier but had to stop because I was way past my bedtime. Now that I’m up, it appears that I have something great to start my day with. yay!

“This correlation, to me, indicates that time is genetically encoded within us (and the reason why we age), and that our DNA is tied to our experience of time and our cycles around the Sun (the marker of time).”

I think I’ve read something about this before but I just can’t remember where. Oh, and thank you for the links to the forum posts.

Hi Ryhen – I see… you like high quality dogfood! Lol. Terence McKenna was truly a genius.

Interesting, I’ll search for material mentioning the time/DNA correlation. I’m sure there will be hidden gems in there, that will trigger further thinking.

On another note: I don’t see the link to your last blog post, is CommentLuv acting funny? I’ll look into it…

  3. M Khan(new comment) says:

The most real feel of time “the present” is infinitesimal. It cannot be measured. Measurement of time is mostly an afterthought. Time also has similarity to recording devices where “the present” resembles the sharp recording point like laser and past is comparable to the recorded material while future is the unrecorded portion. In this way past is just a memory. Similar thoughts were expressed by Mc Taggart when he described the similarity between written history and stories in their time characteristics suggesting that past is just like recorded material.
Time is an emergent concept which results from presence of motion and forces. Time is caused by expansion of space. Time is slow where expansion of space is slow like around massive bodies. Amount of motion and forces induced into a given mass by expanding space is a constant, therefore when we increase external motion of an object, its internal motion slows down. This we see as slowing of time.
