Some questions are so simple, and yet so profound, they really get you thinking. And then a new approach and a new understanding take place, which leave you pondering further. I love that!
I just came across a post by reginaldc.me with quite an intriguing title…
If Science says Opposites Attract, How Can The Law of Attraction Work?
This immediately caught my attention. Right… quite a question. It had never occurred to me to see it that way. I so resonate with the Law of Attraction, the fact that like vibration attracts like vibration, and that you have to be a vibrational match to whatever you attract onto you. It always made so much sense, that I didn’t think of it from that angle. Yet, I have studied energy cycles, yin and yang, where it also makes sense that opposites attract. That life is the eternal movement and transformation between the two opposite polarities. The charge between these opposing forces, gives life to all creation, in an endless balancing game between the two.
How can the concepts of polarity and similarity both work? Reginald’s explanation, about the vibrational counterpart, is very interesting. The counterpart, though of opposite charge (feminine/masculine, negative/positive, yin/yang), still has to resonate vibrationally in a similar way, in order to be attracted to the other one. While being of like vibration, it is of the opposite charge, thus causing the spark of experience in real life. His post will leave me pondering for a while.
Maybe these aspects of opposites/similarity operate on different dimensional realms, the physical one, and the more ethereal one? I shall think about that.
Another interesting thing to note, is that even in the world of opposites, there is a point off-balance, where the attraction between the two diminishes to the point that the charge reverses, and a new process is started, causing attraction for the element made of similar nature. In other words, whereas normally yin attracts yang, and viceversa, when a consistent level of yang is reached, more yang is attracted to it. Same goes for yin. The more yin sugar one eats, the more one craves, and the more yin activities are sought, as a result of eating yin sugar.
This is comparable to the “momentum”, where you are riding on a wave of thoughts of similar nature, attracting other similar thoughts, until the thought-form is so strong, that it will take shape in the real world. Still, if we think of attraction like a magnetic force, the charge has to be of the opposite pole, for the cohesion to happen. Magnets facing like poles, repel each other. This is consistent with the principle that opposites attract.
Because yin and yang are relative terms of comparison between each other, and not absolutes, the principle is still valid. Something is more or less yin or yang, only compared to something else, not in itself. The various degrees of charge are at the basis of the infinite forms in which creation takes place. Going back to the example above, eating yin sugar (relatively more negative charge), attracts a similar vibration of yin activities (relatively more positive charge).
Still pondering…

Hi palma, you bring up a great question on the like vibration attraction. The way I understand it is the like vibration is analogous to music. It like two instruments that harmonize with each other. Its the tone that matches. But like you say it still has to be masculine and feminine, yin and yang. as above so below. great post my friend.

Hi reginaldc, this was all inspired by your wonderful post! I never thought before of the possibility that like vibrations can have opposite charge. I love your analogy with music.. the tone is the one matching. The post on your blog raises the desire to get deeper into the concept, and understand better the principle of attraction.
The Law of Attraction has two modes: “Like attracts like” and “Opposites attract.” Both work. In certain contexts, one is active and the other not; frex, magnets attract opposite poles and repel same poles. In some other circumstances, it can go either way; frex, in love there are happy couples who are very similar (like attracts like) or totally different (opposites attract).

That’s another interesting approach, that they work alternatively, each as its own system, depending on the elements involved. I like that too!
Elizabeth, the law of attraction is really another name for the universal principle of cause and effect. The thing about any universal law is that it is at work all the time. The laws do not cancel each other out and they all work on any plane of existence at all times. whether in the physical world or the spiritual world. whether you are talking about energy or atoms. If a law does not work on all planes the same way then it can not be a universal law.

reginaldc, I agree that universal laws work at all times on all planes of existence. I am trying to grasp why law of attraction and cause and effect are the one and same law, and not two universal laws, possibly overlapping at times.
For example, if I push a rock (cause), the rock falls down (effect). Though, by pushing the rock, I attract onto me the experience of watching it fall, wouldn’t this be a more indirect effect (secondary manifestation)? If I fear, and expect, that a rock will fall over my head (attraction), I experience the rock hitting my head (direct manifestation).
Or… law of attraction is the parent universal law, encompassing the child cause and effect universal law… just wondering… the more I think about it, the more I see your point though.
hi Palma,
Excellent question. The Law of attraction is the prime universal law because nothing in the universe happens until a thought occurs. Thought is cause in our universe. U Create All (wink) from a thought. anything that follows is the affect of the thoughts. You may think of something to cause an action. That action then causes another effect. That effect may be a cause of something else. It is a chain reaction rather than different laws occurring. But no effects occurred until the initial thought. I can be an architect and imagine a building. I can then set many events in motion to bring that building to fruition. Many of those events will have its cause and effect. It works from the smallest to the most grand. You will bring into your experience that which you vibrate in harmony with. Examples of this law on a practice level is, “do to others as you would have them do to you.” “You reap what you sow.”

reginaldc, my neural pathways have just expanded, following your line of thought! I see what you mean. The reason why I split it into two mechanisms is such:
1 – Thought – primary cause of all existence – Law of cause and effect.
2 – Emotions – primary factor in the Law of attraction (attracting what you vibrate in harmony with).
But you are right, they can be unified. Emotions/vibrating (cause) –> what you attract (effect). Action is the result (effect) of either thought (cause), or emotion (cause), or both combined (cause). Manifestation is the result (effect) of either action (cause), or thought+emotion (cause), and so on… oh my!
Hi, Palma,
Your points are well made and valid. The way I see emotions in this loop is that emotions are simply the technology we have within us to access and manipulate the laws. our emotions are physical. Without emotion the laws would exist. Without the prime law nothing would exist.

Hi reginaldc,
Yes, I’m there with you, and completely agree that emotions are a tool to work with the laws, which operate independently on all planes. You have a wonderful way of clarifying concepts!
