Running a blog is a labor of love. Endless hours tweaking, coding, testing plugins, and going insane in front of the computer screen. Even more time checking support forums for a possible solution, until the late night hours.
Then, weird dreams in la-la computer-land, with wordpress tattooed in my mental eye.
This is what I have done for the past week, setting up the free downloads pages… things are still not quite as I’d like them to be. And the site seems really slow in loading. I have to run several more tests, deactivating plugins and see which ones I can live without. More time is spent to streamline the site (at least at this stage), than to adding content.
Sometimes I like to google sentences, just to see what comes out. Hoping for a word of advice from the Universe.
I found myself typing “zen and the art of blogging”, hit the return button and… there you go… I stumbled upon a really nice free e-book, The Zen of Blogging. It’s a quick read, and it can be quite helpful if you have a blog, or are considering starting one.
The author is Hunter Nuttall, who runs an interesting site on personal development and self-improvement. Check it out.
I have always called my mac “my open window to the Universe”. It’s like a bridge to collective consciousness, where so many people offer their knowledge, on all possible topics.
A two way window, of receiving information from others, and of giving back to the community. Creating a blog is a digital legacy, in the utmost zen form of impermanence. A blog does exist, because people can read it. But then it doesn’t, because it’s just binary data that can disappear from the server at any moment. It’s present and intangible at the same time.
When starting up, the first issues that arise are how to find a niche, and how to attract readers. I believe that the best way is to create something that pleases you, and you alone, rather than “finding” a market or a topic. Because it’s when you are pleased, that you give your best. It’s when you give your best, that you inspire others. It’s when you inspire others, that you receive.
What you receive is your own - alchemically transformed - energy back. Be it gratitude, Adsense money, love, or Paypal donations. It doesn’t matter, because it all comes together in the end, and the ride was fun.
Having faith that the Universe will match readers and bloggers, leaves more space for uniqueness and creativity. Being out there, in the net-sphere, adding to collective consciousness, is bliss.
Rather than writing for an “audience”, when one writes to their Higher Self, words take a life of their own, no matter what the topic at hand. Be it about self-improvement, fashion or cars, readers will resonate with them, learn from them, get inspired by them.
Therefore, my niche is me, and what I have to offer.
