The other day, as I was cooking some porcini mushroom stuffed ravioli and the delightful aroma was filling the room, I thought that the holographic illusion that we call reality certainly has some advantages. Then, I started pondering as to why we have to eat in order to sustain ourselves and why we are designed that way. If everything is made of energy, and originates from the same unformed magma, why can’t we absorb energy automatically, or produce our own, without having to force an intake based on other forms of life? Why is this physical world designed to kill for survival? Also, if reality is a projection of the Mind, why do we need to transform matter into consciousness, through eating? Digestion, after all, is the alchemical transmutation that takes place in our bodies, which I have addressed in the post The spiritual side of eating.
The time loop
At first, I thought of the time loop as a determining factor in needing a constant supply of nourishment, in order to be able to handle living in a three-dimensional world. That is, in order for consciousness to be able to focus in physical form. While we are under the effects of the time-space continuum, we age and consume great amounts of energy. If we were to travel at the speed of light, the aging process would be considerably slower, compared to someone who stayed on Earth, a phenomenon known as the Twin Paradox. Most likely, we would need much less energy to survive.
The question remains, as to why our biological computers are not programmed for self-sustenance, or at least for absorption of energy from the atmosphere. Why can’t we live on sunlight or air, like some plants are able to do? Eating, after all, is just another way of absorbing energy, but it is based on suffering. If the reality that we experience is a projection of our beliefs, and thought is cause, could we change the collective mental programming and our DNA (physical programming of the species), and realize that the need to eat may be part of the bigger illusion?
Prana, and living on cosmic energy
I remember hearing of yogis that could survive without eating, by absorbing prana directly, or through extremely little food. Something that would be impossible to the average person, who believes he has to eat in order to survive. These yogis demonstrate that if we change our beliefs about how we can supply energy to our bodies, it would be possible for us to survive on cosmic energy.
Several years back, when I was studying about prana, I recall eating as an experiment a hazelnut and chewing it nearly to the infinite point of automatic absorption, trying to release from it as much prana as possible. I was amazed by the results. One small hazelnut gave me enough energy for an entire day. The atomic power released from the act of chewing, liberating all the energy contained in each particle, was quite powerful.
The very interesting article Infinite Energy, states:
When souls became entrapped in physical form, thus forgetting how to live directly from cosmic energy, food became a main source of energy. Most people believe they have to have food or they will perish. As we evolve into Spiritual Intuitive Man, we will live and create directly from cosmic energy and less from food, water and air. Most spiritual practices include disciplines with food. This is because food is a very dense way of receiving energy. In other words, it requires a lot of energy to digest and assimilate food in order to receive the life force energy from it. Therefore a diet that is light frees one’s energy for other uses.
Upgrading from eaters, to prana absorbers
The issue remains of us incarnating in human form to experience the world through our senses. The sense of taste can be quite rewarding (I’m thinking chocolate, right now!). If we did not need to eat, after eons of evolution, our bodies would not need a digestive system at all. But we could learn from those yogis, maintain awareness of consuming little, with care and respect, and select as our primary source of energy forms of life with a lower point of consciousness. Anything has to be terminated, and give up its own individual existence in order to become something else, but a spiritual seeker intent on infusing his body with ‘light’, will avoid direct or indirect killing of other sentient beings as much as possible.
Sadly, our society has to deal with serious food disorders, like anorexia, which are at the opposite end of the spectrum from what is being talked about here. The refusal to eat, without spiritual awareness of how we can absorb energy through other means, has disastrous consequences. We cannot avoid the physical laws of this dimension, while we are still subconsciously buying into the big holographic illusion. Especially when we have no idea how to draw cosmic energy by other means than the solid foods. All living beings on this Planet are designed to eat for survival, though I believe this can and will change, when we change the matrix behind it.
A being infused with higher consciousness tends to eat little and chew the food thoroughly, drawing out as much energy as possible, from as little as possible. It is through conscious chewing (and holding liquids in our mouth) that we break the molecular structure of food and are able to absorb the prana through the nerves on our tongue, mouth and teeth. For great reference and practical instructions, make sure you read the article Prana Absorption from Food.
Being aware at the experiential level how we can extract an incredible amount of cosmic energy from very little matter, and transform this energy into our own consciousness, is an amazing experience.

SOOOOOO very very true!!! Thank you for reminding me to savor my food and nourish my soul!
Hi Elizabeth – You are welcome! Nourishing the soul through the food we eat, is not only healthier for our bodies, but it will also give a spiritual purpose to what had to give up its own existence, in order to become part of us.
Hey Palma,
But to consider that we could directly absorb the energy to nourish our bodies is not something I have never considered. Interesting idea though.
I have heard of the yogis that went for years without food. I am sure that I would not want to do that, I do enjoy the taste of food. Maybe a little too much.
Hi Reginald – I definitely enjoy the taste too.
What I find intriguing is why the physical world was designed this way, considering that the food chain process, is a big factor in perpetuating the vibrations of fear. The daily struggle for survival in all the animal world creates a strong energy field. As we approach a planetary shift, it could be possible that mankind will bring into awareness the ability to absorb energy in more direct ways, in its primal state.
Hi Palma. I really appreciate this post on energy consumption and it has triggered my imagination big time. I’m anxious to apply this wisdom by chewing slowly on, lets say, some pumpkin seeds, which I love and at the same time focusing my mind on that Ocean of Infinite Love which is our higher balanced self and is Now, always Now. It makes sense that Yogi in a higher state of consciousness which is Love, can draw energy by prana. Our minds can create such a powerful state because we are Powerful. I really appreciate the effort that you give in bringing such knowledge to light. I feel that I’ve been given another piece of the puzzle.
My feeling so far in my journey cannot except that our Infinite Loving and Balanced Higher self would create a pattern of unfairness in energy distribution. Pure Love only Gives and to all. I think that such a unfair pattern is created out of us as are wars and all misery. Nothing can force us to create such negativity but we choose too for reasons that I have yet to discover. I feel that our Higher Infinite Self is showing us by consequence what is bliss and what is misery and I believe that a moment of Awareness will come when all energy will be one loving thing.
Hi Marty – I am glad that you found the post inspiring. I think that you will find the experiment with the pumpkin seeds quite amazing (make sure you read the instructions on the link provided in the post, so you will be 100% conscious of the prana released from them). Doing this while infused with the vibrations of Love, will nourish every particle of your being. Love is so powerful!
I agree that the unfair pattern is not created by our Higher Selves, which live in the dimension of Infinite Love. It’s our lower selves that get trapped in the illusion. It’s up to us to make choices, move beyond fear, and turn on the Light switch. Thank you for your insights!
I’ve noticed that the energy in foods seems to sustain me as much or more than the physical structure. I’ve always preferred naturally grown, less processed foods to commercial ones. But one time I had reason to eat a lot of frozen dinners. I bought the good ones, with a nice variety of foods that were supposed to be healthy — and I wound up horribly exhausted. I had to switch back to things that were at least home-cooked.
Elizabeth Barrette´s last blog ..Red, White, and Blue Foods for July 4
Hi Elizabeth – I feel the same way about home-cooked natural foods. Fresh and whole foods are much more nourishing, because they contain a higher amount of life force (prana), with the added energy that comes from cooking. Foods that are highly processed, refined, and stripped away from their nutrients, are energetically weak, and have lost most of their life force. That’s why you felt exhausted. Those foods are technically ‘dead’. Our society looks at the amount of calories, vitamins and nutrients, forgetting the life-force factor, which goes beyond the physical structure or the chemical components of the foods.
Hello everyone. Hello Palma. I just wanted to share my recent experience with prana. The setting is I was home all day. First I re read all of the info for more inspiration. I was going to eat pumpkin seeds first but instead I had a banana mid morning. I mushed it with my tongue and my teeth ground it even more. I really took my time. As I ate the banana I felt more alert but still relaxed. My house seemed more real or should I say less real. I felt more conscious to be sure. I was tempted once or twice to eat the banana quicker for a quick rush but didn’t. My appetite was completely gone. I then two big chores.
I was still full at supper. I waited awhile and then began eating unsalted pumpkin seeds because I wanted to see how pumpkin seeds would be to eat slowly. I started with three seeds but I found one seed was just right to really take everything out of it. I could grind a single seed into oblivion very slowly and I did. A few thoughts kept rattling around in my thinking the whole time. I kept thinking that each seed is like an atom and when it is split special energy is released. I thought of sperm whales seemingly eating dark ocean water but really eating tons of swill. We must be living in a sea of energy. Only a few days ago I didn’t know that such a thing as prana existed and now I’m enjoying it. I’m greedy. I want more. LOL
Hi Marty – Thank you so much for sharing your experience! You are right that one feels more conscious while absorbing prana deliberately. And the sense of fullness lasts for quite some time.
You nailed it! This is exactly the process, the releasing of the atomic energy within the food. The great advantage is that this kind of energy is immediately available to the body. In other words, there is no burning of energy in order to produce energy (digestion).
LOL! The good news is that prana is available in infinite abundance!
Great topic to talk about and great site in general.
I too remember learning about the masters of the East, (some presently) who live off of the energy of the sun – they sun gaze. They believe and one I think went nearly a year, with no food, just sun gazing, that our brain has the potential to absorb the energy directly from the sun through the eyes.
I think and know today that anything is possible. We only need to eat, because we have been conditioned that way and learn by example, all too often on auto-pilot without giving much thought to our actions. But as you say it could very well be that some future generations no longer need to.
But I don’t think eating needs to be about killing. Fruit plants for example want their fruits eaten. Animals on the other hand want to live out their own life and not be eaten. So there could be a greater discussion here too about getting that prana in love not violence.
Either way, it is a fascinating topic nonetheless.
Evita´s last blog ..Evolving Being in Action: Julie Riddle
Hi Evita, quite interesting, about the sun gazing! I agree about the possibility to get prana in love, not violence. Picking a fruit from the tree is different than killing a chicken. When I was meditating on the issue, I considered two factors.
The first one, is that there is a daily struggle for survival on the Planet, where most creatures feed on each other, and someone/something has to die in order to support life for the other species. This creates a strong energy field on a daily basis, and I was wondering why it has to be this way. When watching nature documentaries, I feel for both the prey and the predator, trying to feed her little ones.
The other factor (I admit that it is an extreme) is that survival is based on the termination of something else in general, even when there is no killing. When picking a vegetable from the garden, roots and all, it will no longer bask in the sun, and end up fried in a pan. Again, this is an extreme, but it made me wonder on the possibility of absorbing energy without taking away from the existence of something else, no matter what it is. The possibilities are there. Several fruitarian animals reseed and fertilize the soil with the byproducts of their digestion (they basically eat the pulp and expel the seeds again, so they can grow). Even a mosquito, in the end, feeds itself without killing the host.
Thank you for your input!
Hey Palma,
Nice article ! especially the chewing of food to release max energy.
Yoga means union… a way to connect with the cosmic energy, after all what we are doing is trying to absorb energy from many sources….even sleep is a way to replenish the energy we have depleted during the day. so you’ll find that a yogi requires less sleep.
In the physical world I guess the rule of thum is to stay close to nature. sunlight, air, plants, earth are high quality energy sources.
You may be interested to look at Jasmuheen… she is an advocate of absorbing prana without tapping food sources. she has written a few books as well. here is the link…..

thanks for the great article…
Hi Pratei – True that nature has high quality energy sources we can tap into. I love your definition of Yoga… a way to connect with the cosmic energy. To a Yoga practitioner there are many ways that this energy can be drawn from, so that he/she will require less food and sleep, indeed.
When this is coupled with the yogi’s ability to also retain that energy by burning and leaking less, one can increase the mileage too.
Thank you for your feedback and the link, the site looks quite interesting!
